Lita Cabellut (b. 1961) is the leading female contemporary multidisciplinary artist in Spain most well-known for her paintings on large scale canvases using a contemporary variation of the fresco technique. Beyond her monumental paintings, her work also includes drawings on paper, sculptures, photography, scenography, installations, poetry, visual poems and videos. She has also expanded to Opera scenography in the creation of stage, custom and video design. It is Cabellut’s central tenant of a guiding poetic sense that stirs all these multidisciplinary tools.
She is recognized as the third most valued Spanish artist and her works have been exhibited in numerous museums around the world, including, amongst many other places: Seoul Arts Center, Korea; Contemporary Art Museum, Sicily, Italy; CSMVS and Mumbai, India. Additionally, her work is included in the permanent collections of several corporations and museums such as Museo Goya IberCaja, Zaragoza, Spain; Museo de Arte Contemporánea, Sicily, Italy; The Fendi Collection, Italy; Museu Europeu d’Art Modern, Vila Casas Foundation, Spain; Théâtre Mogador Paris, France; Copelouzos Group, Athens, Greece; The Joop & Janine van de Ende Foundation and The Paul van Rensch Foundation, The Netherlands.
Cabellut grew up as child on the streets of Barcelona as an orphan until the age of thirteen when she was adopted by a Catalan family. Their frequent travels to Madrid and visits to important museums like the Prado Museum, inspired her to pursue a career as an artist, becoming greatly influenced by masters like Francisco Goya and Diego Velázquez. At the age of 19, she decided to move to her present country of residence, The Netherlands, where she attended the Gerrit Rietveld Academy in Amsterdam, further studying Dutch masters. Her experiences have culminated in a successful career with art that mirror her life experiences. Cabellut’s spectacular works on canvas questions all qualifying concepts of beauty and searches to redefine it with a greater sense of humanity and objectivity.
